Fully-funded Teacher Training Courses in March/April 2012

The European Hands-On Universe (EU-HOU) project is offering new 5-day training sessions on 'Bringing Frontline interactive astronomy to the classroom' and 2-day seminars on radio astronomy to all interested teachers.

If you are a teacher from the UK, you can apply to the British Council for funding to attend these courses/seminars. The funding will cover everything - course cost, accommodation, subsistence and travel.

If you are a teacher from outside the UK you can apply for funding from your Comenius National Agency.

X-Ray outburst observed by schools across Europe

Astronomers from Wales and the Netherlands, in collaboration with five schools from the UK and Poland, have used eight telescopes simultaneously to study the strange behaviour of an X-ray binary star system.

3rd successful COMENIUS-funded Teacher Training Session - Torun, Poland

The 3rd COMENIUS-funded EU-HOU training session was held this may, in Torun, Poland, and has been very successful !

Despite the Swedish volcano eruption, 29 teachers from 13 European countries attended the session held at the Institute of Physics in Torun. In addition, HOU Staff consisted in 9 trainers, assisted by 12 persons from the Local Organising Committee.


The days consisted of a number of hands-on workshops and talks aimed at showing the educators freely available astronomical resources which can be used in their classrooms back home to help stimulate their pupil’s interest and enthusiasm in science.

Faulkes Telescope Team hold successful training session for teachers across the Atlantic!

The Faulkes Telescope Team recently held a very successful online training session with teachers from the US. Using the Elluminate Live! online collaboration system, Dr Paul Roche and Dr Sarah Roberts were able to hold a virtual training workshop with 14 teachers from across New York State, explaining how they could get involved with the FT project, and demonstrating the Stellarium and SalsaJ software packages for planning an observing session and making colour images.

In the course of the COMENIUS project, the 3rd European teacher training session will take place in Poland, in the city of Torun, Institute of Physics.
